10 Oct 2008 - OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
Swansea Bay 10K Race
On Sunday 21st September, 19 staff and friends of Morriston Primary School completed the Swansea Bay 10K race. It was a beautiful sunny day and with the support of the crowds we all crossed the finishing line. Some achieved personal best times ranging from 49mins for the more athletic to 1 hour 53 mins for the less physically fit. Although the sponsor monies have not all been collected it is certain to amount to well over £2,700. Following a report of the schools involvement in the race which was published in the Evening Post several donations were received including an anonymous donation of a laptop. The money raised will be used to purchase specialist equipment and software for one of our pupils, Rhys Cashin who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Rhys joined us in his buggy for the race but was able walk across the finishing line to gain his medal.
Harvest Service
Remember to join us for our Harvest Festival Service which will be held at 9a.m on Friday 24th October in the school hall. This year we have decided to support the Farm Africa Appeal, this charity works with poor people in East Africa, helping them to produce more food for their families, providing them with livestock, equipment or training. The appeal is called ‘Give Poverty the Boot’ so by wearing our wellies to school and donating £1 each we aim to make a donation to this worthwhile appeal.
Parental Consultations
Teachers will be inviting you to attend a parental consultation evening on either Tuesday 11th November or Wednesday 12th November. This will provide an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress and targets for the coming months.
Open Day
We are aiming to hold an open afternoon at 1.30p.m on Monday 10th November for parents, prospective parents and any other members of the community who would like to visit our school. During the afternoon visitors will be accompanied on a tour of the school and its facilities.
Detention
Pupils who have behaved inappropriately will be required to attend a session of detention which will be held after school on Tuesdays from 3.15-3.45. If your child has been asked to remain in school for detention you will be notified on the Monday either by telephone or letter. We thank you for your support with this initiative which is aimed at making children take responsibility for their actions.
Governors Annual Report to Parents
A copy of the Annual Governors’ Report to Parents will be available after half term outside the school office. If you require a copy please do not hesitate to request one from Mrs Rushworth. The report contains factual information about the school budget and expenditure, pupil performance data and school organization plan. The Annual Parents meeting with Governors will be held in the school hall at 2.30pm on Monday 10th November.
